  1. 2010년 02월 15일  FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack(RAW 파일 탐색기에서 미리보기)

A free collection of 32 and 64-bit RAW image decoders for Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Windows Vista introduced a modern and extensible imaging framework called Windows Imaging Component (WIC). The operating system comes with built-in support for several common image formats including jpeg, bmp, png, gif, tiff and HD Photo. WIC makes it possible for 3rd parties to add first-class support for image formats to Windows, complete with thumbnails in Explorer, preview and slideshow support in Photo Gallery / Photo Viewer and metadata search integration.

The FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack provides such platform support for additional formats and turns Windows Explorer into a raw viewer, through read-only image decoders, simultaneously available in both 32 and 64-bit flavor for Win7, Vista and XP SP3. The codec pack contains 32-bit and 64-bit NEF and 64-bit CR2 codecs, along with 64-bit DNG and a lot more!

WIC-enabled image viewers such as Windows Live Photo Gallery, Windows 7's Media Center and our own FastPictureViewer Professional "automagically" gain the ability to open and view new image formats, play slideshows etc, so does all .NET 3.x and WPF-based applications.

Unconvinced? Since the initial release last September we got tens of thousands of codec packs successfully deployed and thousands of websites pointing at us from all around the world, even microsoft.com points to this page from their Codec Download Page, check it out!

Licensing for commercial use, bundling

Commercial use (including redistribution and bundling) requires a license, please contact us for details. Axel Rietschin Software Developments retains all rights to the FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack and all its content.

Possible future formats

Without making any kind of commitment, we are investigating a few image formats for possible future inclusion in the FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack. Formats currently under consideration includes Radiance's HDR and ILM's OpenEXR, two of the most popular formats in the Computer Graphics industry, along with DDS and PPM.

Custom codec development

We have the skills and minute attention to details required to design and develop highest-quality custom WIC codec solutions for your image formats, including strong Windows platform knowledge, intimate image file format and metadata knowledge. We are also experts in the lost art of native 32 and 64-bit C/C++ and COM development. Contact us with your project idea, or if you'd like us to develop customized or read/write versions of some of the codecs included in the FastPictureViewer WIC Codec Pack. We can make your own 32/64-bit WIC codec a reality.

Will this wreak havoc with my computer?

No. The image codecs are passive components that gets loaded only when required, and we don't overwrite anything in your machine. Our codecs passed all Vista and Windows 7 conformance tests with flying colors (Microsoft has published a set of tools for WIC image codecs validation for Windows 7 and Vista) and we got zero horror story report either during the beta (more than 1200 installs) or since the launch, with several tens of thousands copies installed so far. The codecs also uninstall themselves cleanly and use very little disk space (less than 5 MB for a full installation), so it's not an invasive technology taking over your computer. Newly supported raw formats are associated with the default photo viewer (Photo Gallery on Vista and Photo Viewer on Windows 7), as required by the codec's developement guide. On Windows XP SP3 you need to download and install Windows Live Photo Gallery or FastPictureViewer Professional for full-size viewing.

Any bundled adware, spyware, malware, toolbarware, whatever-ware?

No.

Can I use raw files as desktop background or in slideshows?

Yes, we have enabled the "Set as desktop background" right-click context menu option for all the file formats we support, in Windows 7 and Vista. You can also watch raw slideshows diectly from Photo Gallery / Photo Viewer and, on Windows 7, Media Center (that means you can watch raw image's slideshows on your livingroom TV, with the appropriate Media Center Extender). The print and email function of Photo Gallery are also enabled. What you cannot do, on the other hand, is add a folder containing raw files as a picture location for automatic background image changer: only JPEG and BMPs are compatible with this new Windows 7 features.

Developer's corner

From time to time we get inquiries from developers wanting to use our codecs with their application. Here are the answers to the most common questions: you can develop an application that relies on our codecs for image access, but your end users need to download and install the codec pack themselves. In particular, bundling the codec pack or any part of its content is not allowed. You must make it clear that the codecs comes from a third party and direct your end-users to this web page of you want them to use our codecs.

There is no OCX or DLL that can be used to access the codecs from older development environments. On the other hand, any application developer can use the WIC imaging framework, which is part of Windows and documented on MSDN, to access images. Application going through WIC will automatically benefit from any installed codec(s) and will gain instant raw files access without any modification once our codecs are installed on the end-user machine. WIC is COM based and can be programmed from many languages and development environments, moreover, .NET 3.x (or later) developers using System.Windows.Media.Imaging for image access automatically benefit from installed codecs.
